My story
Where I come from
I grew up moving around Memphis as a renter. Before real estate, I worked full time as a pharmacist, and I've always had an entrepreneurial side. I even opened a clothing store selling women's dresses and men's suits. My wife and I bought our family home in 2006, and I bought my first rental in 2007. Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad got me interested in investing, and talking with other investors led me to get my real estate license in 2016.
Why I do it this way
My own first experience with a Realtor stayed with me. It was all about the transaction. He didn't care about my needs or respect the budget I wanted to stay in. When I got my license, I promised myself my clients' best interests would guide my work. I studied the market like I was back in pharmacy school. Pharmacy had taught me to explain complex information clearly, and that came in handy when I started helping people I'd known for years buy their first homes.
How the Next-Home Plan came together
In 2018 I was flipping homes and helping people buy and sell. I decided to leave the pharmacist role behind, grow in my faith and become self-employed. With my wife's support, I committed to it, and the business grew through word of mouth and referrals. As an investor, I've bought, fixed up and sold homes myself, so I walk a house thinking about what buyers will pay for. Pharmacy taught me to put the numbers in front of you in plain words. Put those together and you get the Next-Home Plan.
